The SDGs, or Sustainable Development Goals, are a set of 17 global goals adopted by the United Nations in 2015 as part of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The goals aim to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure that all people enjoy peace and prosperity.

Sustainable Development Goals

Thinger has prioritized meeting as many objectives as possible in order to contribute to the future of the world and the environment. Not only that, but the company encourages companies and persons to also take action and work toward these goals by offering an open-source platform.

Thinger has also worked to offer different solutions to help to achieve these goals through different use cases and software developments:

Industrial IoT (goal 9):

The trend of Industrial IoT involves connecting all elements, including structures, machinery, vehicles, and operators, to a central server for processing data as a unified system.

Thinger.io allows the collection, storage, and analysis of real-time data through compatibility with various industrial protocols, such as Modbus, OPCUA, and ProfiBUS, as well as IoT technologies, such as LoRaWAN, Sigfox, and 4G.

The results of the analysis can be shared with customers and end-users or forwarded to third-party analytics systems, contributing to goal number 9.

Education (goal 4):

Being open source has brought Thinger closer to educational institutions and universities. By being used in plenty of colleges and with more than 2000 alumni, Thinger has contributed to quality education, contributing to the 4 and 8 goals.

Smart building (goals 7, 11,12, 13, and 6):

In the past three decades, buildings have seen significant technological advancements that make maintenance easier and enhance occupants’ comfort.

In the past, each building had its own separate and makeshift electrical wiring and centralized systems, but with the rise of IoT, these systems are being revolutionized by offering a standardized infrastructure for all solutions and additional services through the interoperability of systems.

Thinger has worked with Princess Hotels by offering different solutions such as: cold chain management, Automatic watering system, and energy savings, helping to achieve goals 7, 11,12, and 13.

Princess Hotels was a particular use case, but Thinger offers the possibility to achieve the 6 goals from the smart building perspective.

Smart city (goal 14):

It is estimated that by 2050, 80% of the world’s population will reside in large cities, presenting new technological challenges in managing resources, infrastructure, and waste.

These challenges are collectively referred to as a Smart City, which encompasses various digitization initiatives for public lighting, parking, air quality, watering, transportation, and more.

Thinger is a platform that has been designed for deploying large infrastructure projects in key areas of Smart Cities, in addition to other potential uses.

The company has joined forces with Sea Water Analytics, a Spanish initiative focused on assessing the physical and chemical characteristics of the water at the beaches. The solution proposed by Thinger has helped to goal number 14 of the SDGs.
