Industrial sensors from WIKA, ready to use out of the box

At Thinger.io we keep expanding our ecosystem of industrial devices that are ready to use out of the box through the Thinger.io Marketplace.

The goal is simple: allow you to connect real industrial sensors to Thinger.io with as little effort as possible, leveraging four things the platform already brings.

Dedicated plugins

One plugin per device model, installed from the Marketplace.

Automatic device provisioning

Devices register themselves when their first messages arrive.

Preconfigured data buckets

The data structure is created for you: buckets for pressure, temperature, battery and diagnostics.

Dashboards from the first minutes

Dashboards that start showing meaningful information in just a few minutes.

About WIKA

Ready for the future with “Smart in sensing”

WIKA is a global reference in industrial instrumentation, with a portfolio that includes pressure, temperature, level, flow and more.

Their devices are commonly used in:

  • Process industries (oil & gas, chemical, petrochemical)
  • Water and wastewater
  • Power generation
  • Machinery and critical infrastructure

Over the last years, WIKA has been bringing this field experience into the Industrial IoT domain by adding low-power wireless connectivity (Bluetooth®, NFC, wireless modules, etc.) to traditional field instruments. This combination makes it easier to enable centralized remote monitoring and predictive maintenance on top of existing processes.

The integrations

Three building blocks you can use in real projects

In this first phase, the WIKA–Thinger.io integration lands with three concrete building blocks.

PEW-1000

Wireless pressure and temperature sensing.

PGW-23-100

Hybrid mechanical + digital pressure monitoring.

NETRIS®2

Bring existing 4…20 mA instruments into the cloud.
The three WIKA devices integrated with Thinger.io: the NETRIS 2 radio unit, the PGW-23-100 pressure gauge with its telemetry module and the PEW-1000 wireless sensor
NETRIS®2, PGW-23-100 and PEW-1000: pressure data, analog signals and cloud dashboards.

For each device you will find below a short overview of typical applications, the basic integration requirements, and what Thinger.io configures for you out of the box, so you can see how it fits your use case.

WIKA PEW-1000

Wireless pressure sensor with Bluetooth®

The PEW-1000 is a compact sensor designed to measure pressure and temperature in gases and liquids, while transmitting data wirelessly with very low power consumption.

Typical applications

  • Water distribution and irrigation networks
  • Storage tanks and reservoirs
  • Process lines that need remote supervision
  • Outdoor or harsh industrial environments

Basic requirements

To integrate the PEW-1000 with Thinger.io you will need:

  • A compatible network setup to receive the device's telemetry (for example via a LoRa® or similar backend, depending on how you deploy the device)
  • The WIKA PEW-1000 plugin installed from the Thinger.io Marketplace
  • Device parameters configured using WIKA's tools (including Bluetooth® for local commissioning)

Plugin available from version 6.5.10-beta onwards

Once the network is in place and the plugin is installed

  • PEW-1000 devices are auto-provisioned in Thinger.io as soon as their first messages arrive
  • The platform automatically creates the device, the data buckets, and a basic dashboard with pressure, temperature and battery status already mapped
  • Downlinks from Thinger.io adjust sampling and reporting intervals, alarm thresholds or perform configuration resets

Installed from the console

The PEW-1000 as the Marketplace catalogue shows it. The tile opens the plugin's page.

WIKA PGW-23-100

Hybrid pressure gauge with telemetry

The PGW-23-100 combines a traditional Bourdon tube pressure gauge with a digital telemetry module.

It is ideal when you still need to see the needle on site, but you also want the data to flow into an IIoT platform.

Typical applications

  • Processes where plant operators require an immediate local reading
  • Critical pressure points in chemical, power or water facilities
  • Distributed assets where regular manual readings are costly

Basic requirements

To connect the PGW-23-100 with Thinger.io you will need:

  • A compatible network infrastructure to transport telemetry to Thinger.io
  • The WIKA PGW-23-100 plugin installed from the Marketplace
  • Device commissioning using WIKA's tools (including NFC for configuration and key management, depending on the model)

Just like with the PEW-1000

  • The plugin handles payload decoding and automatic provisioning of new devices
  • Thinger.io creates dedicated buckets for pressure, temperature, battery level and diagnostic parameters
  • A preconfigured dashboard is deployed with the most relevant variables
  • From Thinger.io you can send downlinks to change reporting intervals, alarm thresholds, hysteresis values or perform resets

Installed from the console

WIKA NETRIS®2

LoRa® radio unit for 4–20 mA signals

Beyond the two devices above, Thinger.io is also working on the integration of NETRIS®2, an IIoT radio unit that allows you to connect instruments with 4…20 mA outputs and forward their data to the cloud.

NETRIS®2 reads the analog signals from existing transmitters (pressure, level, flow, temperature, etc.) and sends them wirelessly over long distances with low power consumption, supporting deployment in demanding industrial environments.

Typical applications

  • Remote monitoring of existing equipment and process lines
  • Digitalization of plants with a large installed base of analog instrumentation
  • Predictive maintenance and asset monitoring projects in oil & gas, chemical plants, water utilities and power generation

Planned requirements

The integration with Thinger.io will follow the same pattern as the other WIKA devices:

  • A network backend to carry NETRIS®2 telemetry into Thinger.io
  • A dedicated plugin in the Thinger.io Marketplace

Integration in progress

What the plugin will take care of

  • Decode NETRIS®2 payloads
  • Manage automatic provisioning of radio units
  • Create data buckets for each 4…20 mA channel
  • Deploy a default dashboard with the main signals and diagnostic variables
