Event recap
Two congresses in Barcelona, one question
The Thinger.io team attended two major industry events: the IoT Solutions World Congress (IOTSWC) and the Barcelona Cybersecurity Congress, which brought the global IoT and cybersecurity community together under one roof.
These events gathered global leaders in IoT and cybersecurity and sparked crucial conversations about the future of connected technology. But one question stood out above all:
Are we truly building the foundations to scale IoT securely, intelligently and sustainably?

Opening session
IoT as a tool for global inclusion
Empowering through access: the message that set the tone for the day.
The opening session on the day of our visit to IOTSWC 2025 was led by Albert Tort Pugibet, Secretary of Telecommunications of Catalonia. His message was clear: IoT should be a tool for digital inclusion and global collaboration. Those words echoed through many of the sessions and demos that followed, which highlighted the importance of making innovation accessible to everyone.
Satellite connectivity and open access to data were emphasized as key enablers, bringing smart agriculture, environmental monitoring and resilient infrastructure to remote and underserved areas.
IoT is no longer just about connecting devices: it's about empowering communities.

What we saw
From hype to real-world impact
The shift is clear: IoT is no longer experimental. It is delivering tangible value across sectors.
As we have seen at Thinger.io, real-time, actionable data is transforming industries and driving smarter decisions.
Edge computing and AI at the forefront
With the explosion of connected devices, edge computing is becoming critical. It enables local data processing, reduces latency and enhances decision-making, especially when paired with AI.
Regulation
Regulation and responsibility: the road ahead
While innovation accelerates, regulation is still catching up.
The industry must collaborate to ensure ethical, secure and privacy-respecting systems. This includes not only governments and corporations but also open-source communities, where Thinger.io is proud to contribute.

Connectivity
LoRaWAN, satellite IoT and SGP.32 eSIM
LoRaWAN and satellite IoT are driving accessibility, and a new eSIM standard changes the game for global IoT.
LoRaWAN
Satellite IoT
SGP.32 eSIM
For global-scale IoT deployments, the flexibility and control of SGP.32 are essential.

Final thoughts
Secure, inclusive and future-ready IoT
These events left us inspired, but also aware of our ongoing responsibility.
As an open-source platform, Thinger.io is committed to building IoT solutions that are secure, inclusive and future-ready. The path forward isn't just about technology: it's about how we use it and who benefits from it.
During the congress, the team also ran a real-world acquisition campaign aboard an IRYO high-speed train on the Madrid–Barcelona line for airCAT, its aerOS-funded railway vibration monitoring project: read the airCAT update.
