Why LoRaWAN
Long range, deep penetration and little energy
LoRaWAN technology is today one of the best ways to create long-range IoT network projects such as Smart City, Industry 4.0 or even Smart Farming, as it offers great wireless range and penetration while being energy efficient.
- Great wireless range and penetration
- Energy efficient
- Limitations such as the "1% rule"
- Gateways are required to provide internet connection to the devices
As IoT messages are commonly short transmissions from sensors or events to the cloud, this is more than enough.
The Things Network
A community building the world's largest LoRaWAN network
A lot of projects have joined these narrowband technologies, among them The Things Network.
The Things Network is a European company whose proposal is to create the world's largest LoRaWAN network through a large community of users in which anyone can participate, just by signing up on its website or contributing to the gateway network.
The collaboration
Working with TTN Madrid on the integration
Thinger.io is a hardware agnostic IoT platform, always trying to stay up to date with the trends of the market and to offer the best possible integration with every network technology.
This time the team decided to integrate with TTN. In the weeks before the event, Thinger.io collaborated with The Things Network Madrid community to improve the system and simplify the acquisition, storage, processing and display of the data produced by LoRaWAN devices.

The event
An evening at Google for Startups Campus Madrid
To make the new features public and celebrate the collaboration, Thinger.io and TTN Madrid held a small seminar on integrating a LoRaWAN device with Thinger.io through The Things Network portal.

After the talks came the time to share impressions over a few beers sponsored by Redexia, and TIER Mobility provided free rollers for the guests to make it easier to reach the auditorium.
What came next
The start of a relationship with The Things Network
With everything ready, the team hoped the evening would be the start of a great relationship with The Things Network community and technology, to achieve new goals together in the future.
The integration grew into a plugin: The Things Network Integration Plugin (2020), then TTN Stack V3 Integration Plugin (2021).
Connect your LoRaWAN devices
