The 2030 Agenda

Seventeen goals for people and the planet

The SDGs, or Sustainable Development Goals, are a set of 17 global goals adopted by the United Nations in 2015 as part of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

The goals aim to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure that all people enjoy peace and prosperity.

Our part

Meeting as many goals as possible, and helping others meet them

Thinger.io has prioritized meeting as many objectives as possible in order to contribute to the future of the world and the environment.

Not only that: the company encourages companies and people to take action and work toward these goals too, by offering an open-source platform.

Thinger.io has also worked to offer different solutions that help to achieve these goals, through different use cases and software developments. Four areas stand out: industrial IoT, education, smart buildings and smart cities.

Goal 9 · Industry, innovation and infrastructure

Industrial IoT: the whole plant as one system

The trend of Industrial IoT involves connecting all elements, including structures, machinery, vehicles and operators, to a central server that processes the data as a unified system.

Thinger.io allows the collection, storage and analysis of real-time data through compatibility with various industrial protocols, such as Modbus, OPC UA and PROFIBUS, as well as IoT technologies such as LoRaWAN, Sigfox and 4G.

The results of the analysis can be shared with customers and end users, or forwarded to third-party analytics systems, contributing to goal number 9.

Goals 4 and 8 · Education and decent work

Education: open source in the classroom

Being open source has brought Thinger.io closer to educational institutions and universities.

Used in plenty of colleges, and with more than 2000 alumni, Thinger.io has contributed to quality education, goal 4, and to goal 8, decent work and economic growth.

Goals 6, 7, 11, 12 and 13 · Smart building

Smart buildings: one infrastructure for every service

In the past three decades, buildings have seen significant technological advancements that make maintenance easier and enhance occupants’ comfort.

In the past

Each building had its own separate, makeshift electrical wiring and centralized systems.

With IoT

A standardized infrastructure for all solutions, and additional services through the interoperability of systems.

Thinger.io has worked with Princess Hotels, offering different solutions that help to achieve goals 7, 11, 12 and 13:

Cold chain management

Automatic watering system

Energy savings

Princess Hotels was a particular use case, but from the smart building perspective Thinger.io also offers the possibility to achieve goal 6, clean water and sanitation.

Goal 14 · Life below water

Smart cities: resources, infrastructure and the sea

It is estimated that by 2050, 80% of the world’s population will reside in large cities, presenting new technological challenges in managing resources, infrastructure and waste.

These challenges are collectively referred to as the Smart City, which encompasses digitization initiatives for public lighting, parking, air quality, watering, transportation and more.

Thinger.io is a platform designed for deploying large infrastructure projects in the key areas of Smart Cities, in addition to other potential uses.

The company has joined forces with SeaWater Analytics, a Spanish initiative focused on assessing the physical and chemical characteristics of the water at the beaches. The solution proposed by Thinger.io has helped toward goal number 14 of the SDGs.
